The Inside Scoop

Talk about reaching for the stars.

As the minutes tick away to the start of the 2010 NHL Draft, Edmonton Oilers GM Steve Tambellini is looking to make an enormous splash tonight. According to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun, the Oilers, who hold the first pick in the NHL Draft, have contacted the Boston Bruins in order to trade for the second pick, allowing Edmonton to select both Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin. Both players are expected to be elite in the NHL for years to come and are expected to be taken with the first two picks tonight, although who Edmonton covets more has not been leaked out let.

The report says that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has no interest in trading the second pick in the NHL Draft and will take whichever player the Oilers pass on. Here is what Chiarelli told ESPN.com this afternoon:

"I spoke with Steve this morning and I told him what I told him before: that we're not in a position to make a significant offer to allow us to pick the player we want in the first two picks. But he inquired about trading for the second pick and I have to give him credit. He's been really persistent in trying to get that pick. But I told him, as I've been telling everyone else, that I'm not moving the second pick."

One move that the Bruins are reportedly looking at is moving playmaking center Marc Savard, as well as former Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas. According to the Boston Herald, the B's would look to trade Savard for a big name defenseman. Talk of this deal would mean that Boston is looking at drafting Seguin with the second pick, since he is a center and would replace Savard in the lineup next season.
